Indeed, not only complex analysis in several variables, but also number theory, harmonic analysis, and other branches of mathematics, both pure and applied, have required a reconsidera­ tion of analytic continuation, ordinary differential equations in the complex domain, asymptotic analysis, iteration of holomorphic functions, and many other subjects from the classic theory of functions of one complex variable. This ongoing reconsideration led us to think that a textbook incorporating some of these new perspectives and techniques had to be written.

Many undergraduate psychology classes do not go into detail when discussing SPSS. They assume that just knowing the program exists is sufficient, and for many students, that's probably true. Merely knowing the software exists is insufficient if you're going to be working with SPSS. This book is a great resource for learning how to use the software.

A ridiculous waste of time

There is nothing in this book that has anything to do with reality. If this was simply supposed to be a work of fiction or even tongue in cheek comedy maybe I would give it two stars. Every "real" tale is virtually identical, right down to the adjectives used by various women to describe sex with a crossdresser. Anyone who reads this hoping for any real hope of it helping them find a woman who will accept them will be quite disappointed. I feel embarrassed I fell for the title and actually paid for this. Good thing I can hide my name so no one will know I was such a sucker.

A positive, uplifting, happy read that offers hope for love

I don't read a lot of non-fiction self-help books, but when Penny Bond offered me a copy of How to Find Miss Perfect: A Guide for Cross Dressers for review, I immediately fell in love with the idea. This is neither a how-to book on cross dressing, nor a work of personal affirmation that tries to convince the reader that cross dressing is healthy and acceptable. Instead, it's a book that makes that assumption, and sets out to demonstrate that we can indeed find love not in spite of our cross dressing, but because of it.

As somebody who has lived what Penny is writing, and who is fortunate to have a wife who not only accepts my feminine side, but who actively engages 'Sally' to come out and play, I loved the approach. What makes this such an exciting book is that it's written not by a cross dresser, but by a wife who loves one.

There are some studies and background details that Penny discusses, and some common questions that often arise when a spouse comes out as a cross dresser, but most of the book consists of real accounts of happy, healthy, loving relationships between cross dressers and their wives. It really is a positive, uplifting, happy read that offers hope (and some dating advice) for even the loneliest of our sisters. Just lovely!

A revealing story, but not what you'd expect

This book was written about a year after the Church Committee concluded its investigation of the CIA's involvement with organized crime in its effort to have Fidel Castro assassinated. At the time, President Kennedy's involvement it the plot was unknown and no attempt was made to investigate it. Judith Campbell (Exner), however, was called to testify at that hearing and, as a result, was later identified as President Kennedy's "close friend," although she was actually Kennedy's part-time lover and his go between with Chicago's syndicate boss, Sam Giancana. Since she was a somewhat mysterious figure, while President Kennedy was still viewed as Prince Charming and the myth of Camelot still persisted, she was cast by the liberal media as the villain of the piece, a prostitute, a party girl, etc. and felt the need to tell her side of the story; thus this book.

The book is essentially Judy's life story as told from a woman's perspective but seems to have been aimed at presenting JFK, Sam Giancana, and Judy, herself, in the best possible light. Disappointingly, it sheds no light on the criminal aspects of Kennedy's activities in promoting the assassination attempt and fails to address her activities in that regard in any meaningful way. As a consequence, although the book is extremely interesting from a prurient viewpoint, it tells little about what really went on between Kennedy and Sam Giancana's criminal outfit.

It should be kept in mind, however, that when this book was written most of the principals involved in the plot, President Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, John Roselli, and Sam Giancana had already been murdered (Giancana shortly before he was to testify); and Judy, as she said much later in life, was afraid to tell the whole story. So, although this book makes truly fascinating reading -- especially if you want to really see how the rich, famous, powerful, and ruthless live -- time and more recent revelations have passed it by.

For the complete story, I suggest you read "Joseph P. Kennedy: The Mogul, the Mob, the Statesman, and the Making of an American Myth" by Ted Schwarz and "The Dark Side of Camelot" by Seymour M. Hersh, but by all means read this one too. You'll really be amazed at how the other half lives.

Exner told the truth

Judith Campbell Exner's naivete, and one can follow in her story the gradual extinction of her naivete at the hands of extremely ruthless men, seems entirely credible to me. She was searching for love and thought she found it. It took her a long time to understand the differences between male and female biological programming. It took her a long time to understand that there was no difference between the Mafia and the Government. She wanted love; the men were after sex and control. Sam Giancana made her a marriage proposal, which she refused; eventually he got even for that insult. His "love" turned into the hatred that it always was in fact. At the end of the book Judith thinks she has found a man -- Dan Exner -- who loves her and whom she can trust, but could she? The Evildoers keep a nationwide stable of small Don Juans like Exner whose only job is to romance naive women like Judith who are assumed to be keepers of nonexistent secrets. She, to borrow a description from Sam Sloan's "Mafia Moll: The Judith Exner Story," was a sort of "Forrest Gump" -- an unwitting and uncomprehending participant in all the back-stabbing intrigues between Kennedy, Giancana, and Sinatra. The men used her for her beauty and her naivete. To those with ears to hear, her story is a cautionary tale of immense suffering and crushed innocence.

Fascinating history

I wanted to read this book for a long time. It did not disappoint me.

I remember the days when voters worried about Kennedy's consorting with the Pope in running the country and when it was a shock that Marilyn Monroe was nude when found dead. At that time, the public thought the president was a charming, upstanding rich boy with an elegant wife and two cute children. This book sticks another pin in that balloon.

After reading Judith's book, several Mafia tell-alls that give a different version of the assassination than what has been given to the public, and a couple of Kennedy family biographies, all I can say is that we were as gullible as Judith was as she ferried papers and payoffs back and forth between Kennedy and Giancana.

Judith Exner seemed very naive and sought love and attention in all the wrong places. I would call her not much more than a moll, an object, used and passed around from powerful man to powerful man. Now that Kennedy's seemingly unending womanizing is public knowledge, this book is not as shocking as it might have been if published right after his death. Even so, a very interesting read.

Good comprehensive review, but also a false sense of security

I graduated as an EE 7 years ago and decided to set aside most of my life for 4 months and focus on studying. This book was my primary text, along with a college circuits, devices, EM fields, and machines book. I did most of the practice problems and found them helpful. Overall, this book helped me navigate the huge field of electrical engineering and get my head back in the game.

A few disappointments and things that I learned after taking the PE (yesterday) that I wish I would have known:
1. Be sure to verify the edition of Codes the PE exam uses. Unfortunately, Camara's book lead me to believe that the NEC 2008 would be the focus, when in fact all the questions were based on the latest version, NEC 2011.
2. This book glosses over some very important topics-- especially power flow studies, fault studies, metering, relaying, zero sequence currents, harmonics and their effect on the power system. I feel like the book prepared me for the basics but the difficult interactions between concepts was not explored (like how does voltage affect power factor, how does a fault on one phase affect current in the neutral, how do changes in motor torque affect power factor....etc). These difficult interactions are the focus of PE questions.
3. There is no guidance on other materials, recommendations to study. I had an extremely difficult time finding help on some of the power-related topics and a bibliography of recommended books would be great. PPI's web forum is not helpful and I could not find any great online place to chat and prepare for the test. At the time, I thought this book was all I needed, but it is essential to study from other books and resources to pass the PE!
4. The companion PE Sample Power Exams asks pretty straight forward questions. Compared to the sample exam published by the NCEES, the PPI version seems easy. NCEES has some difficult questions that are tricky because of how they are worded or presented. The PPI questions tested the same topics, but presented it in a much more accessible and easy to understand format.
5. This book focuses heavily on the basics. This is great to get into the material after being out of school for awhile, however, it gives the impression that this will be a big component of the PE exam.
6. This book states that engineering economics "to date" haven't been on the PE exam but are valid questions. Let me tell you-- you better study these!

Overall, great book to have as part of your overall preparation, but don't be fooled into thinking this is all you need.

Great Reference Book, Poor Study Guide...

This is a great hardcover reference book but just that, a reference book and not a study guide. I used it to work the problems for the PE exam and was able to luckily pass the first time I took it - but I put in about a 3 month studying effort. At first, I started by going through the big reference book and then quickly learned that I would never get through that book. What is most important for studying for the PE is to practice doing problems!!! I had this big reference book, the workbook and the NCEES sample test guide as my three study resources. By far the most important of these was the NCEES sample test guide. This is where you need to start folks...because this gives you a great flavor for the test, how it is written and what types of problems you will be presented with. Three of the problems were exactly the same as in the book (same answers too, the whole nine yards). So, get these three books, start by going through the NCEES sample test guide first and taking the test and then solving the problems. Use the reference guide when you get stumped or when you need to go back and learn some more detail in order to be able to solve the problems.

Some of the folks who have been out of the game for awhile chose to do a refresher course from testmasters dot com. All of the folks who have taken this course have passed prior to taking the exam...I did not take the course but just wanted to offer that up to my fellow electrical engineers in case they feel they need a course.

Make sure you manage your time on the test as well! Go through first pass and hit all the easy ones you know you can get in a minute or two...circle the ones you think you can get if you think about it more....guess on the ones you have no idea on and just move on. Make sure you kill it in the morning session...because the afternoon session will be brutal.

Good Luck on the Test! Remember, I know a lot of engineers who haven't passed this test until the third or fourth go around. Do not be ashamed or embarrassed - sometimes you just have to wait until the questions are stacked in favor of your strengths.

A must have reference book for the PE exam

Took the test 6 weeks ago. This book was essential. There were some redundant content and some content that could have used further explanations (like the effects harmonics have on a system), but for the most part this book provided a lot of good info for review before and during the test. Also, if taking the test you will need the latest copy of the NEC (several questions that require specific values from the code) and Power System Analysis by John Grainger (there is at least one or two questions that come from that text). Other topics that were on the test not covered by this book were Electric rate and demand questions as well as harmonics.
