Arthur Wright spent the first 18 years of his career in industry, holding posts with the Admiralty, Brush Electrical Engineering Co. Ltd. and A. Reyrolle & Co. Ltd. He later joined the staff of the Nottingham Trent University as Professor of Electrical Engineering. He passed away in 1996. Gordon Newbery worked for the Brush Electrical Engineering Company on fuse research, fuse design and development, later progressing to Technical Director of Brush Fuse-gear Limited, Hawker Fuse-gear Limited and Bussmann Division of Cooper Industries in the UK. He has actively participated in the national and international standardisation and technical promotion of fuses.

A multicultural successor to Judy Moody and Junie B. Jones

Summary: Dolores “Lola” Levine is an athletic second grader who loves playing soccer, writing in her diary, and hanging out with her best friend, Josh, who is also the school principal’s son. When she makes an aggressive play during a recess soccer game, a boy in her class gets hurt, and she is banned from playing soccer. Worst of all, some of the girls in her class start calling her Mean Lola Levine. After suffering a few days in silence, Lola confides in her family, and together they figure out a way for Lola to resolve her problems. 96 pages; grades 1-3.

Pros: With a Jewish father and Peruvian mother, Lola is a multicultural successor to Judy Moody and Junie B. Jones. She incorporates aspects of both cultures into her strong, feisty personality.

Cons: Not particularly groundbreaking entry into the early chapter book genre.

An inspiring semi-autobiography of a dhoti-clad management guru

I am a senior associate in a corporate. My education backgrounds are in mass communication so whatever little understanding of management I have I got to accumulate them from my real life experiences. But then I wanted to explore the field more hence I was browsing through Amazon to get my hands on a management text book. This is when I came across writer Mohit Jain’s “Four Corners of the Circle”. Needless to say, the name played a great part in attracting me to the book. Hence I ordered for the book and I must accept that I do not regret buying it. Although, initially it might come across to many as a book for MBA but once you go through the contents you shall understand that the book talks about real life challenges and hardships. I loved the way the author chose to write the book in a simple language which ofcourse made reading easier and more appealing. I would recommend this book to all who wants to become successful, make a difference in their lives and inspire others. Loved this book!

A necessary book for the MDE discipline ...

I rated this book with 5 stars because it is a book that fills a gap between the theory and practice in MDE. The book integrates the differents areas of MDE in one place and put them in a good perspective with a conceptual and integrated view. Because this knowledge area is new, is not common to find a book which explains all the implicated aspects. Brambilla, Cabot and Wimmer did it, excelent decision. The book includes an example of conceptual modeling showing the diferents techniques, tools and practices (based on Eclipse tools) that results very illustrative.

weekend review

Good introduction and catch up to the MDSE scene having seen early incarnations 5-8 years ago. Allowed me to formalize and correct some ideas I had in my head. Definitely worth a read if your looking at this area even if it's just to understand the negative feedback it gets from non believers and to look at the actual complexity of the problem it's trying to solve. Thought it was a little biased to EMF, but maybe I need a second read.

The good mix of theory and practice

Brambilla, Cabot and Wimmer wrote an excellent book. I think that the book is a good contribution for Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) because the authors include a lot of MDE concepts with illustrative examples (modeling, transformation models, ). The book systematically explains the basic concepts of MDE, transformations and DSML (foundations and relationships) . The book allowed me to organize my ideas about MDE and MDSE because I think that the book is well organized.

About the Author

Sylvester Arnab (BSc(Hons) MSc PhD) received a PhD degree (2009) at the University of Warwick, UK and is currently a Senior Researcher at the Serious Games Institute (SGI), Coventry University, UK. His research interests and activities are mainly in the area of immersive environment and the application of technologies to address health, learning, and socio-cultural issues. He is involved in the coordination of the R&D activities under the EU-funded Games and Learning Alliance (GALA) - a Network of Excellence consisting of 31 partners including NATO and various game development projects, such as the Relationship and Sex Education project with the Studies in Adolescent Sexual Health (SASH) Group and a SGI Singapore. He was previously awarded the Prime Minister's Initiative Partnership Development Grants for UK/ASIA in 2010 and the EU Transversal Programme Study Visit fund in 2011. He has various publications within the area of virtual worlds and simulation. He has been invited to speak at various events, such as the AI-MAS Winter Olympics in Bucharest alongside speakers from Adobe, Facebook, and Google. He was previously a research fellow at the International Digital Lab based at the University of Warwick working on projects operated under the EU Sixth Framework Programme, such as the Network of Excellence for Innovative Production Machines and Systems (I*PROMS), the Intelligent Robot Swarm for Attendance, Recognition, Cleaning and Delivery (IWARD), and INTUITION - a Network Of Excellence focused on Virtual Reality applications.

Ian Dunwell (BSc, MSc, PhD, ARCS) is currently a Senior Researcher at Coventry University's Serious Games Institute, where he recently led the final evaluation report for the UK Department for Transport's £2.5m Code of Everand, a serious game aimed at encouraging children to put learnt principles of safe crossing into regular practice. He has worked in intersectoral and international contexts across a wide range of European projects, including the FP7-funded ALICE, e-VITA, mEducator, and the Games and Learning Alliance (GaLA) Network of Excellence, as well as the forthcoming 3m MASELTOV project, which seeks to develop new methods of supporting migrant workers through technology. His research interests include integrating web semantics with game-based learning environments, as well as the application of robust evaluation methodologies and methods for effectively feeding back this research into design. Recent collaborations include acting as Director of Studies on PhD studentships addressing topics such as Avatars as Vehicle Interfaces (funded by Jaguar Land Rover Ltd.) and Internet Metadata as Embedded Game Content (joint funded by the UK EPSRC and PlayGen Ltd.), as well as consulting on steering committees for games addressing topics such as childhood obesity, triage response, sexual health, and infection control.

Kurt Debattista is an Assistant Professor at the International Digital Laboratory. Prior to this, he worked as a Research Associate on EPSRC grant EP/D069874/1 at the University of Bristol and as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Malta. He has a PhD in Computer Science in selective rendering from the University of Bristol and an MSc (distinction) by research in Parallel Computing and Systems Programming from the University of Malta. He has a first degree in Mathematics and Computing from the University of Malta. His research, published in over 35 refereed journals and international conferences, has focused on selective rendering for adapting computation for rendering methods, parallel graphics for speeding up global illumination, and multithreading for shared memory multiprocessors. His current research focuses mostly on interactive realistic graphics and serious games.
